Vernal Pools for Me – Week 12 – Changing Bodies

Like tadpoles changing into frogs, salamander larvae metamorph into juvenile salamanders before they are able to leave the drying vernal pool. In New England, our spotted salamander larvae begin to metamorph in August but some won’t leave the pool until snow falls.
