Vernal Pools for Me – Week 9 – Egg Masses
A Web Comic – by Laura Bollert with Kris Hoffmann
Vernal pools are important sources of nutrients for some of our favorite birds, mammals, and turtles. When mammals wake from hibernation and birds migrate through the area, vernal pools can provide them with easy protein-rich meals of amphibian eggs. We frequently find bear scat and raccoon tracks at our vernal pools, and our motion-detecting cameras have caught many different species enjoying their visit to these sites.
Watch this video to learn how to identify vernal pool amphibian egg masses.
